The Butterfly Gospel

Christ, without the cross.

The cross is one of the most recognisable images in Western art — sacrifice, suffering, redemption and hope. Yet its familiarity can obscure the unsettling image beneath it: a body suspended in pain, made into an object of devotion.

This collection begins with a simple act of departure: Christ is removed from the cross. Not as a rejection of the crucifixion, but as a question — what happens when we look beyond the suffering? Christianity holds a tension between sacrifice and salvation, guilt and grace, death and transformation.

“Hope is nothing but a poor man’s faith.”

The butterfly enters that tension. Christ is no longer fixed to the instrument of his suffering. He has wings. He can leave.

Maybe resurrection isn't about returning to the cross. Perhaps it is about being released from it.

Made by hand using real butterfly and moth wings, each work is inherently one of a kind.
