About Us
Obscure is a South African artist duo creating intricate artworks and jewelry that explore the beauty and symbolism of nature, death, and transformation. Founded and run by Tarrin and Roché, Obscure blends ethical sourcing, traditional craftsmanship, and environmental consciousness to create pieces that are both thought-provoking and visually arresting.
Tarrin, the creative force behind the bone mandalas and butterfly earrings, brings a strong design vision and deep respect for natural cycles to each piece. Her work transforms fragile remnants of life into symbols of beauty, balance, and meaning.
Roché specialises in the meticulous cleaning and preservation of animal bones—using non-toxic, museum-grade techniques that ensure each specimen is sterile and structurally intact. He also leads the electroforming process, where metal is bonded to organic materials, giving each piece its signature durability and ethereal finish.
Together, they built Obscure not just as a business, but as a collaborative artistic expression. Their pieces are made using only ethically sourced materials—never harming animals—and often incorporate roadkill, vintage insects, and thrifted frames. By honoring what is often discarded, they invite viewers to reflect on mortality, sustainability, and the sacredness of nature.
